MBRAS maintains a Resource Centre in the History Department of University Malaya. The Centre holds physical copies of MBRAS publications, copies of journals published by the Royal Asiatic Society, the Siam Society, and the Hong Kong Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society, and selected reference materials. We can also help researchers access digital resources, including a comprehensive 12-volume index to Colonial Office correspondence relating to the Malay Peninsular, Singapore and northern Borneo.
The Centre is open to researchers, students and members of the public, and provides a workspace for researchers consulting its collections. Our goal is to develop the Centre as a hub where researchers can access resources, exchange information, and seek advice from MBRAS members on topics related to their areas of specialisation. In the future, we anticipate hosting events, reading groups, workshops, and seminars.
The Society’s Journal, which was first published in 1878 and spans more than 300 issues, contains articles on topics ranging from exploration to natural history, arts and crafts to performing arts, folk tales to Jawi manuscripts, heritage to architecture, sociology to history, and much more.
We strongly encourage researchers interested in seeing back issues of the journal to consult the Index (available through the Quick Links section in the footer of this page) before coming to the Centre.
Except on KL public holidays, we are open (by appointment only) from 9 am to 5 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

To reach the Resource Centre by public transit, take either the T815 from MRT Phileo Damansara or the T789 bus from the LRT Universiti station to the “Perpustakaan UM/UM Sentral” stop, which is a five-minute walk from our location.
